Shipping containers in Bundaberg, chosen by what goes inside

Pick the closest match below. Each answer names the size and grade we would send for that job around Bundaberg and the Wide Bay, what to watch for on your block, and a quick way to ask for the price.

What we'd send for each job

Cane, macadamias, small crops

Farm machinery, spares and inputs

Our pick
40ft, cargo-worthy used
Guide price
Used from $2,600 · new from $5,500

Why: Harvester belts, tyres, bagged fertiliser on pallets and the hand tools that go missing from an open shed all fit in one long lockable unit. Floor area doubles over a 20ft for a small step in price.

Watch for: It arrives on a sidelifter: about 30 metres of working room and a headland firm enough for the legs. After a storm, let the ground dry before booking. Spray chemical goes in its own DG unit, not in with the spares.

Priced to the job

Why: A bunded floor catches a leaking drum, the vent panels clear fumes, and it is the kind of store a workplace or farm audit expects to find. It also keeps chemical away from everything else you own.

Watch for: Tell us the DG class and roughly how many litres. Those two answers decide which unit fits, and getting it wrong shows up at inspection.

Household contents

Our pick
20ft, cargo-worthy used — or hire it
Guide price
Used from $2,200 · new from $3,300

Why: A three-bedroom house packs into a 20ft with some care. Cargo-worthy grade is checked wind and watertight before it goes out, so the lounge and the boxes stay dry when it rains.

Watch for: Put it on the highest firm ground you have, up on blocks. Watertight means rain from above — it does not keep out water rising around it. If the job has an end date, ask for the hire rate as well.

Pallets, cartons, seasonal overflow

Business stock and packaging

Our pick
40ft — or a hired 20ft for the busy months
Guide price
Used from $2,600 · new from $5,500

Why: Pallets, cartons and overflow stock sit well in a long unit with doors at one end. Load the slow movers at the back and keep the aisle clear down the middle.

Watch for: Cardboard and paper soak up condensation from sealed steel in humid weather. Ask about vents or moisture absorbers when you ring.

Tools, benches, a packing room

A workshop or a place to work

Our pick
High cube, 20ft or 40ft
Guide price
Used from $3,400 · new from $5,500

Why: At 2.69 metres inside you can stand under a light batten, run shelving to full height and still clear it. The taller walls leave room for vents above head height, which matters through a Bundaberg summer.

Watch for: Decide on the fit-out before choosing the grade. A new single-trip unit has clean, intact paint, which is the easiest starting point to line and paint.

Burnett Heads, Bargara, the Heads

Boat, fishing and marine gear

Our pick
20ft, new single-trip — 10ft on a tight block
Guide price
Used from $2,200 · new from $3,300

Why: Salt air off the coast works on every scratch in the paint. A new single-trip unit starts with an intact coat, so it holds up for longer within sight of the water.

Watch for: Outboard fuel and oils belong in a DG unit or approved storage, not stacked in with rods and life jackets. A 10ft costs more than a 20ft, so check the 20ft won't fit first.

Priced to the job

Why: Tell us roughly what is going in, where it is going and for how long. That usually settles size and grade in one conversation, and you hear the price for both buying and hiring.

Watch for: Have the delivery address handy and, if you can, a photo of the spot and the way in.

Figures are guide prices, ex GST, for the container only. Cartage is added once we know the address and the access, and stock changes as units come and go — 07 4152 3388 gets you the current figure for your job.

As-is grade: As-is units are sold as seen and are not sold watertight — watertight applies to the cargo-worthy and new single-trip grades only.

Three grades, three different promises

  1. New single-trip

One voyage from the factory. Clean paint, tight seals. Worth it near salt water or for anything you'll line and work in.

  2. Cargo-worthy used

Retired from shipping, then checked wind and watertight before it goes out. Dents and old decals on the outside; sound where it counts. Most storage jobs belong here.

  3. As-is

The cheapest units, sold as seen and not sold watertight. Fine for steel offcuts or a windbreak; we'll steer you away if the cargo needs to stay dry.

Ask and we'll send photos of the actual unit, serial number showing, before it's delivered.

Three Bundaberg things to think about before it lands

The river

The Burnett and the Mary both come up. A container keeps rain out from above, but floodwater rising around it gets in through the door seals, and an empty one can float. Height on the block protects the contents; leaving a way in for a truck means it can be lifted out of the way before a rise. More on flood planning.

The salt

From Elliott Heads to Moore Park Beach, salt spray finds bare steel. Closer to the water and staying longer means a higher grade, and a touch-up kit used early. Salt air and steel.

The soil

Red soil and cane headlands carry a ute all year and bog a loaded truck after rain. Coastal sand does the same in summer. Firm, level standing is what the driver needs. Getting the truck in.

Tell us what's going in it

Give us the cargo, the town and whether you want to buy or hire. We'll come back with a unit that suits and one price covering the container and the cartage.
